Routine dental cleanings are essential for removing stubborn plaque and tartar that are filled with bacteria. Neglecting to address these issues can lead to tooth decay, gum disease, and other severe damage.

If it has been some time since your last professional cleaning, you may notice some bleeding in your gums during the cleaning. Our hygienists are very gentle and will work at a pace that is comfortable for you. If your mouth feels a bit sore after the cleaning, you can take an over-the-counter pain reliever for relief.

When you come in for a dental cleaning, your dental hygienist will carefully inspect your gums for any signs of recession or periodontal pocketing. They will then remove plaque and tartar from around your gum line and between your teeth. After cleaning your teeth, they will use an electric brush to polish them and finish by flossing. We also perform an oral cancer screening at each visit. If you are prone to cavities or have chronic tooth sensitivity, we may recommend a prescription fluoride treatment or mouthwash.

Your dental insurance usually covers the cost of your biannual dental cleanings in full. Although you will need to pay during your appointment, our office is happy to help you submit a claim to your insurance provider for reimbursement.
